Honolulu is a big, bustling, multicultural city with a population of around 350,000 people. Downtown Honolulu is made up of historic buildings, such as the picturesque Iolani Palace. On the outskirts of downtown, there are many residential areas, each with its own unique characteristics. Its most famous landmark, Diamond Head, is located in the tourist district of Waikiki. Waikiki is very lively, both in the day and at night, and can get a little crowded and noisy at times. At night, you can see a lot of street performers on the sidewalk along Kalakaua Avenue. Honolulu has a wonderful public transportation system, although traffic can sometimes make getting around a bit challenging.
